Up until now i've just been smashing out sum beats on the laptop keyboard so this will be a big upgrade As I predominately produce hip hop and variations of (trap, 100, moombah, house etc) I think i'll be using the pads a lot, and will be using snare rolls a bit too (arpeggiator important). I've done a ton of research but yet to own one and get hands on experience. The youtube videos I've seen do look pretty impressive with their multicoloured RGB velocity sensitive pads tho (Alesis) - my concern is every video available so far is a salesman doing the same old sales pitch and for all I know it could be a steaming pile of shit in the real world.Ĭonfession: relatively new to the the midi keyboard game. Though being a lot cheaper I wouldn't be surprised if this is a pipe dream. storeDJ is about to receive their first shipment of the new MPK series and the Alesis isn't arriving here till September at the earliest - tho I'm hoping some readers in the US/somewhere already have access to it and can offer a review?)įrom what I understand the Alesis is made by the same parent company as Akai - and is going to be substantially cheaper, I'm hoping this means the pads will be the same build quality and have that same MPC feel everyone raves about. They are both quite new (especially in Australia. ![]() Apologies if there's any cross posting but I don't think there is another thread that is directly comparing these 2 models.
